Our Refurbishment

In 2021 Wiltshire Council was awarded a grant from the Future High Streets Fund to develop a range of projects in Trowbridge. This included the long-awaited and much needed refurbishment of The Old Town Hall.

Work began in August on 2023. Wiltshire Council (the owners of the building) led the refurbishment in partnership with contractors Beard. Key elements of the refurbishment include the restoration of the Great Hall as a live performance space, the transformation of the basement rooms to accommodate a recording studio and rehearsal spaces, improvements to make the building more sustainable, as well as major accessibility improvements – including a new lift, entrance ramp and Changing Place facilities.

Our building reopened on Saturday 25 October, 2025. Over 1,500 people came down to celebrate the big day, which saw the opening of Avonfield Café at The Old Town Hall, the launch of our 5th annual Open Exhibition, as well as live music from Hannah White and Courting Ghosts. St James Church rang in celebration, just as they did for the Town Hall centenary back in 1989 (you can find out more here).
